Class of ’58: A Return of Honor

The Class of ’58 is an initiative that honors Vietnam veterans who feel compelled to return to the place that profoundly shaped their lives. Each participating U.S. state will select 58 veterans to participate in a dignified journey back to Vietnam—an opportunity for reflection, reconnection, and remembrance—offered as a living tribute to the 58,318 Americans who did not return home. Through this initiative, veterans address unresolved memories, affirm their service and personal histories, and renew their commitment to honoring fallen comrades.

  • To honor the sacrifices of Vietnam veterans and to strengthen intergenerational connection, the initiative pairs veterans of post-Vietnam conflicts—such as Desert Storm, Afghanistan, and Iraq—with Vietnam veterans on return journeys to Vietnam. This meaningful collaboration creates a bridge between eras of service, fostering shared understanding, reflective dialogue, and enduring camaraderie. Through these interwoven experiences, participants honor the memories of those who served, deepen mutual respect, and carry forward a legacy of courage and sacrifice across generations.
