REASONS TO RETURN TO VIETNAM
“Failure is a hard word—but no matter how you analyze the War in Vietnam, that's exactly what it was on a national scale. From its covert beginnings, through the bloodiest and darkest days, to its bitter end, this ten-year chapter in American history made little sense—politically, militarily, or economically.”
— The Psychological Effects of the Vietnam War
Our Approach:
With profound respect for both the American and Vietnamese generations touched by the war, our mission is rooted in a sacred debt to all who made the ultimate sacrifice and never returned home—American service members who fell far from their families, and Vietnamese soldiers and civilians whose lives were taken on their own soil. In solemn tribute to their shared courage and irreplaceable loss, we bring surviving American veterans back to the land where so many perished, so they may stand as living witnesses for their fallen brothers, while creating space for Vietnamese families and communities to remember and honor their own dead in the presence of those who once stood on opposing sides.
Unit-Based Veterans
Each unit-based program reunites a cohort of twenty combat veterans who served together as one tight-knit team, returning them to the exact ground where their brotherhood was forged in fire—where they fought, bled, carried each other, and lost brothers. Standing shoulder to shoulder once more, they engage in raw, peer-led reflection and ritual remembrance, speaking unfiltered truths, bearing witness to one another’s pain, and sharing the weight of memory, guilt, and grief in the only way that truly works: brother to brother. Through this sacred gathering, the unbreakable bond created in combat is not just recalled but actively strengthened and lived, reaffirming the lifelong code that no one gets left behind—not in the fight and not in the aftermath—so every veteran knows his brothers still have his back and those who never came home are forever carried by the ones who did.
Non-Unit-Based Veterans
For veterans who lost touch with their units and brothers-in-arms yet still feel the pull to return to Vietnam, we offer a quiet journey of healing. This small, respectful gathering lets you revisit the places that shaped you, stand in silence for those who never came home, speak their names when ready, and gently release the ghosts of war—grief, guilt, and memories carried alone for decades. With others who truly understand, you can find peace, honor the fallen, and rediscover a sense of belonging rooted in duty, sacrifice, and country. You are welcome here, exactly as you are.
“Walking the same battlefield where so many fought and fell—despite the erasure of history—brings a profound sense of inner peace. It reawakens the brotherhood forged in combat and offers an indescribable satisfaction that comes only from returning to this sacred ground more than half a century later.”
— Jim LAWRENCE, (1965) IaDrang Valley
